ProjectWise Explorer is the main user interface for ProjectWise, from which you access the datasources that contain your work areas, folders, and documents. For each datasource you will work in, your administrator will create a user account for you that you will use to log in to the datasource. If a Windows-based account is created for you, then you can log in with your Windows credentials. If a Bentley-based account is created for you, then you can log in with your Bentley Cloud Services credentials.
ProjectWise Explorer not only provides a folder-based file system but also directly integrates into most Bentley, Microsoft Office, Autodesk AutoCAD and Adobe InDesign tools enabling the opening and modifying of files from directly within the tools interface.
Installing ProjectWise Explorer integrates ProjectWise into MicroStation. This provides access to open documents from, and save documents to ProjectWise, directly from within your software. The tools in MicroStation used to browse for files such as the reference manager, raster manager and cell dialog box will show a ProjectWise browser window when opening or browsing for files, instead of the regular MicroStation windows.
By installing ProjectWise Explorer, the integration for MicroStation is also installed. Refer to Accessing ProjectWise Explorer for a video explaining the installation process. Once installed, clicking to open a file will automatically start browsing ProjectWise instead of your local file system.
When working with files on ProjectWise, your MicroStation Configuration may still be used, and any settings configured by your administrator, and applied to your computer, will still apply. Typically, however, most ProjectWise administrators will also create what is called a Managed Workspace. This is a configuration for MicroStation, hosted on ProjectWise, that will automatically override your normal configuration whenever opening files. This configuration can help enforce standardized levels, text styles, dimension styles and other settings to aid in consistent development of information. If a managed Workspace has been applied to the folder you are working in, when you open a file from that folder, the Workspace and Workset dropdowns will be overridden and greyed out. ProjectWise will take over applying the correct configuration.
Design Integration integrates your ProjectWise environment into your drafting or modeling software. ProjectWise is designed for Bentley tools, but will integrate well with Autodesk products as well, including AutoCAD, meaning that you can work without the need to use ProjectWise Explorer. Installers are available from the Bentley CONNECT website, provided you have permissions for software downloads. From the Software Downloads page search for ProjectWise Explorer Client. You will then be presented with a list of available integration modules. Scan down the list until you find the ProjectWise integration modules for Autodesk AutoCAD. Be aware that multiple versions are supported so make sure you download the one that matches your version of AutoCAD.
Once installed you have access to open documents from, and save documents to ProjectWise, directly from within your software. A ProjectWise ribbon will be loaded.

The tools in AutoCAD used to browse for files such as File Open, XRefs and Blocks will show the ProjectWise browser window instead of the regular AutoCAD dialog boxes.
NOTES: If the option to enable/disable ProjectWise is greyed out, this will most likely be because you have a file open from ProjectWise.

Unlike other Design Integrations, a ProjectWise panel is used to create and manage ProjectWise design integration projects and configure the contents needed. This is covered in detail in the ProjectWise Panel video. NOTES: If the option to enable/disable ProjectWise is greyed out, this will most likely be because you have a file open from ProjectWise.

Design Integration integrates your ProjectWise environment into your Microsoft Office tools, meaning that you can work directly in ProjectWise without the need to learn additional software. Design Integration works with many of the popular Microsoft Office tools: Word PowerPoint Excel Outlook
It is also possible to connect ProjectWise to SharePoint and Teams so can take advantages of each system and work more seamlessly as a unified project team. This would need to be setup by your ProjectWise administrator.
When installing ProjectWise Explorer Client, there are options to integrate ProjectWise into your Microsoft Office apps.
