  • Building a Model with Geometric Data

    Building a Model with Geometric Data

    This course focuses on constructing a HEC-RAS model by incorporating and refining geometric data. You’ll learn how to integrate topographic data, georeference key elements, and navigate the Geometric Data Window. We’ll cover the creation and editing of cross sections, adding tributaries, and working with background map layers. Additionally, you’ll explore schematic editing, cross-section interpolation, and the visualization of sections in both 2D and 3D. The course also introduces modeling approaches, the use of inline structures, and key hydraulic components like weirs, embankments, and gated spillways. Finally, we’ll differentiate between steady and unsteady flow analysis and guide you through performing an unsteady flow simulation.

    Setup for Floodplain Modeling

    This course explores the development of 2D hydraulic models in HEC-RAS, covering both fundamental and advanced concepts. You’ll start by understanding the advantages and limitations of 2D modeling before moving on to creating and refining computational meshes, incorporating break lines, and adjusting mesh refinement regions for improved accuracy. The course also covers terrain association, Manning’s roughness assignment, and running the 2D geometric preprocessor.

    Further, you’ll learn how to connect 2D flow areas to 1D elements, including lateral structures, storage areas, and hydraulic structures. We’ll also explore the integration of bridges and SA/2D connections and their influence on results. Finally, the course introduces terrain modification techniques, from simple adjustments to vector-based tools in RAS Mapper, providing essential insights into model optimization and boundary condition management.
