Learning Path Courses:

  • Introduction

    Course Description
In this course, you will learn about what resources are available and how to create a test scene where lights and materials can be created and modified. You also see that an outside file can be linked and converted for use with 3ds Max and its compatible materials and lights.

    Course Objectives
The material presented in this course shows how to:
Locate free, useful scenes and an Arnold Material library.
Use MAXtoA for conversion of a linked file.
Explore rendering presets and their value for rendering quality.
Explore material presets and maps with the 3ds Max physical material.
Use Arnold RenderView for fast feedback and comparison of images.
Benefit from fast “live” edits in an interactive window where lighting/material changes change the interplay of materials with properties like reflection so these an be evaluated before committing to any final renders or animations.
Use RenderView in both a test scene or eventually in a final project.

    Course Prerequisites
To participate in this training course, you should have the following:
    None

  • Create a Test Scene

    Course Description
In this course, you create a test scene, having representative geometry for a final project (floor, wall and curved geometry. This lets you get fast feedback and evaluate the lights and materials in the context of a simple space, where light, shadow, reflections, refraction interact and sampling times for rendering are reduced because of simple geometry.

    Course Objectives
The material presented in this course shows how to:
Set project units, grid spacing and snap setting to let you model quickly.
Create a sample scene with geometry representative of forms for an interior scene.
Create a wall, floor and curved form (sphere).
    Add point lights.
    Add a physical camera.
Use Arnold RenderView for fast feedback and comparison of images.
See the benefit from fast “live” edits shown in an interactive window where lighting/material changes can be evaluated before committing to any final renders or animations.
Use RenderView in both a test scene or eventually in a final project.

    Course Prerequisites
To participate in this training course, you should have the following:
    None

  • Arnold Lights

    Course Description
In this course, you will learn about the nine Arnold lights and use of an HDRI image and their associated parameters to modify the lighting.

    Course Objectives
The material presented in this course shows how to:
Get an overview of 9 light types (Arnold Light).
Review each of the 9 light types and use of an HDRI file.
Create 3 typical Physical Materials (Paint, Polished Granite and brushed metal).
    Create Arnold Standard Surface Material.
Use Arnold RenderView for fast feedback and comparison of images.
Benefit from fast “live” edits in an interactive window where lighting/material changes change the interplay of materials with properties like reflection so these an be evaluated before committing to any final renders or animations.
Use RenderView in both a test scene or a more complete scene.

    Course Prerequisites
To participate in this training course, you should have the following:
    None
