Working with Large Datasets Course Introduction
(Course Duration: 65 minutes)
Course Description
In this course, you will learn some strategies, techniques, and tools for working with large Datasets in Civil 3D. Infrastructure projects commonly use large, data-rich datasets, captured by stationary scanners, and by manned and unmanned aviation aircraft to gain high resolution detail for their projects. These datasets provide great value to the project, but cripple the performance of CAD systems. To maintain workable and efficient drawing files there are a number of strategies you can consider, and tools you can leverage to keep your drawing files lean and responsive. Each project may require a different strategy, or a combination of multiple strategies to achieve the most optimal result.
Course Objectives
The material presented in this course teach you how to:
Import a subset of Survey Points and/or Figures from a Survey Database
Import Surfaces from large LandXML files
Create Surfaces from large point files
Tile large surfaces into smaller more manageable surfaces
Simplify large surfaces using Edge Contraction and Point Removal
Use Surround and Detailed surfaces to meet resolution requirements
Import and Simplify DEM and GeoTIFF files
Partition an oversized corridor into multiple smaller corridors
Better navigate large drawing files
