Workflow Processes:

  • Create InfraWorks Model

To create a New InfraWorks model you can use the Model Builder to automate the process of aggregating existing data from a variety of sources, including OpenStreet Maps, Microsoft Bing Maps, and USGS online map services. Once your new model is created, you can add other external data sources, like terrain data, aerial imagery, ArcGIS data, various 3D models, etc. When aggregating all of the data sources into your model you can leverage the Master Proposal to create multiple conceptual and preliminary designs.

  • Create Component Roads

Component roads are assemblies of different parts, such as lanes, curbs, gutters, medians, shoulders, and sidewalks. You can add, split, delete, or modify every component and assembly in your roadway project, and save custom road assembly configurations to your Library so you can use them again. A variety of advanced tools for design, inspection and analysis are available only to component roads.
    NOTES:
The different toolsets shown below are available in-canvas depending on which component road display options you apply.

    Component Parts and Assemblies
Add lanes, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, medians, shoulders, and transitions where needed. Place decorations on components. Create and save road assemblies for reuse.

    Superelevation
Apply superelevation to component roads. Inspect road model cross-sections, turn lane sections, intersection areas, and bridge decks in real time using the Section Viewer. You can also add pavement drainage along roads with complex cross sections such as multiple gutters or superelevated regions.
    Create_Component_Roa_002
Note: You can toggle between Superelevation, Road Assembly, and Cut/Fill views in the Section Viewer
    Roadside Grading
Set different slopes and choose different grading materials for each side of the road.
    Create_Component_Roa_003
    Road Transitions
Model linear road transitions where the road cross-sections change. Add lanes, curbs, and transitions where needed and control the transitions where those parts start and end along a road. When adding pavement drainage to a component road, inlet placement and analysis accounts for any road transitions.
    Create_Component_Roa_004
    Earthwork Quantities
Review earthwork cut and fill quantities for any lane or road section. View earthwork quantities in the Analysis Hub and export them to CSV
    Create_Component_Roa_005
    Pavement Marking
Quickly turn pavement markings on or off for selected component roads.

  • Create Civil Structures

This Process steps through the tasks that will create a bridge and/or tunnel using the Design, Review, and Engineer Structures tools available in InfraWorks. A bridge and/or tunnel design can only be created where you have already placed a Component Road.

  • Create Drainage Structures

This process covers the common tasks for analyzing drainage networks in your InfraWorks model You can leverage InfraWorks analysis driven design to locate inlets and manholes over a Component Road, and use Cloud Credits to create Watersheds and Streams in your InfraWorks model. Stream Crossing can then be used to automatically locate and size culverts at the stream crossings.

  • Add Conceptual Design Features

This process outlines many of the common tasks that you can reference to add conceptual features into your InfraWorks model. Start by creating a proposal for all of your conceptual features then decide the level of detail you want to incorporate into your InfraWorks model. Many of the conceptual features use the same feature sets and manipulators, making it easy for you to place and manipulate Planning Roads, Buildings, Water Features, Railways, etc. Use these tasks to add realism into your models and bring them to life.

  • Collaborate and Share Models

To collaborate on InfraWorks models you can share “live” cloud models, create “point in time” shared views, or share locally saved models.

  • Create Presentations

A major component of InfraWorks is the ability to quickly create conceptual designs in realistic environments. Presenting these conceptual designs could be used to be awarded projects, inform project stakeholders or accurately show realistic design presentations to the public. The tasks in this process will show you how to create presentation materials in InfraWorks.
