Workflow Processes:

  • Export the Model from Design Software

This process describes how to export a model from Civil 3D and Revit to be rendered in 3ds Max Design.

  • 3ds Max Design Project and Scene Set Up

This process describes how to set up the 3ds Max Design project and scene.

  • Create and Import Objects

This process describes how to link Revit models and how to create additional simple objects directly in 3ds Max that can help as props to make the scene more realistic.

  • Set Up Cameras

Cameras present a scene from a particular point of view. 3ds Max cameras, simulate real-world still-image, motion picture, or video cameras with selections from stock lenses (preset Focal Length), Field of View (FOV), lens aperture (f-stops), and shutter speed parameters. Cameras can also be easily animated to produce fly-by’s on a landscape or a building walk through.

  • Scene Materials

This process describes how to create and assign materials and texture maps to objects in 3ds Max Design. Use the tools and techniques described to override and fix materials for the objects in your scene. If you linked DWG ACIS Solids, you will probably have to apply materials in 3ds Max whereas the linked FBX objects will have their corresponding Revit material definition.

  • Illumination and Effects

This process describes how to add daylight and nighttime illumination and lighting effects to the scene in 3ds Max Design.

  • Render

This process describes the final steps to render the scene in 3ds Max Design. Keep in mind that the success of the rendered production is dependent on the lighting, materials, environment settings, backgrounds, and atmosphere that you have already setup in previous steps.
