  • Floodplain Model Setup

    Floodplain Model Setup Course Introduction

This course continues the HEC-RAS Fundamentals Course and is designed to provide the remaining knowledge required to run hydraulic simulations effectively. While the fundamentals course covered the basics of HEC-RAS, this advanced module focuses on preparing and setting up the model to ensure it is ready for computation. From land cover and soil layers to computational settings and geometry management, this course covers the essential elements needed for accurate and reliable simulations.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to define infiltration parameters based on land cover and soil groups, apply SCS methods, and manage unsteady flow data, including hydrographs and rainfall inputs. Additionally, we will explore techniques for comparing water inputs, managing geometry associations, and optimizing plan layouts. To refine your model setup, advanced topics such as computational settings, tolerance adjustments, and Courant-based computation intervals will also be covered.

By the end of this course, you will have everything in place to confidently compute your HEC-RAS simulations. You will gain expertise in defining hydrologic inputs, refining model geometry, and setting up simulations with precise computational parameters to ensure accurate results. This course bridges the gap between fundamental knowledge and practical application, enabling you to complete a fully functional HEC-RAS model ready for analysis.
